ABSTRACT

The period of confinement due to the Covid-19 virus has not only affected the general population, but also sport in general. The objective of this study was to investigate the emotional and adaptive consequences of rowers who compete nationally and internationally. A quantitative descriptive study was carried out with a non-probabilistic sample, based on convenience sampling, known as a snowball. One hundred and ninety-three rowers who competed nationally and internationally participated in the study, with an average age of 19.49 years. The results showed that the rowers reacted with more unpleasant moods than the rowers. It was also found that stressful thoughts were associated with states of greater anxiety, anger or depressive feelings, while the best training conditions and the acceptance of confinement rules were inversely associated with negative mood states. Linear regression analysis showed that stressful thoughts, along with behavior and motivation problems during lockdown, predicted the level of total mood disturbance.

ABSTRACT

Background: The COVID-19 crisis has been a fertile ground for misinformation due to several factors such as the uncertainty typical of crises, the hasty handling of information, the virality provided by social networks and the scarce resources that average citizens have to discern between what is true and what is false in the health information they consume. Objective(s): In this context, this article aims to characterise the COVID-19 hoaxes registered on the Mexican fact-checking platforms Animal Politico and Verificado during 2020 and 2021. Method and design: The method used in this study was predominantly quantitative and took the form of content analysis. This method was applied to hoaxes registered on these two fact-checking sites. Result(s): The primary type of hoax encountered was one of deception, followed by decontextualisation, exaggeration and joking. Disinformation circulates mainly in social media, in various formats that make the false seem more credible. We found that public figures and the media contribute to the spread of health hoaxes. However, they do not contain hate speech as has been the case in other contexts informed by xenophobic and racist agenda. Conclusion(s): The disinformation on COVID-19 registered on the Mexican fact-checking platforms Animal Politico and Verificado during 2020 and 2021 is characterised by a marked concern to question the role of vaccination in confronting and controlling the pandemic. In this way, denialist, conspiracy and anti-vaccine ideas have come to permeate public debate. Copyright © The Author(s) 2022.

ABSTRACT

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020. The health personnel were the first line of action, so detecting the presence of burnout and work engagement allows us to have an overview of the perspective on the work environment of these workers. Objective: To identify the presence of high levels of work engagement and burnout in COVID-19 response teams (RT) during the COVID-19 pandemic in a secondary care level. Material and methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive, and observational, discretionary study. Data from 156 workers belonging to the COVID-19 RT were collected. It was administered a survey-type instrument, which collected sociodemographic data, as well as the UWES-9 and the MBI-HSS scales. Data analysis was performed with measures of central tendency and inferential statistics. Results: High levels of work engagement were identified in 55.1% of the COVID-19 RT members, while the high levels of burnout were 3.2%. Conclusions: The prevalence of work engagement was higher than burnout, but this did not imply protection against exhaustion.

ABSTRACT

Background: Effective Cancer screening is critical in reducing cancer related mortality in CRC by increasing the detection in earlier stages. Worldwide, practically all cancer pathways have been negatively affected by the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. Oncological care has not escaped the effects of reprioritization of health care services to handle the surge of COVID-19 patients adequately. Cancer screening programs are no exception as many were temporarily halted to alleviate the pressure on overwhelmed health care systems. In Uruguay, the first covid patients were detected in March 2020, and since then, the country's Public Health policies have been marked by the covid-19 public health emergency. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on CRC diagnosis. We further aimed to analyze the effect on the clinical presentation and stage at diagnosis during 2020-2021 compared with previous years. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study performed at a single tertiary center. Patients diagnosed and managed with colorectal adenocarcinoma during the years 2020-2021 were compared with patients from 2018-2019. Those enrolled in 2018- 2019 were classified as the “pre-pandemic group”, and those enrolled in 2020-2021 were classified as the “pandemic group”. The primary outcome was the rate of stage IV disease at the time of diagnosis. Mann-Whitney test was used in the comparison of quantitative variables and Fisher's exact test was used for qualitative variables. Results: A total of 370 patients were included in this study. From March 2018 to 2019 (pre-pandemic), 217 patients were considered, and from March 2020 to 2021 (pandemic), 153 patients. Median age of pre-pandemic and pandemic group was 64.4 and 65.6 years, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in cancer obstruction or perforation at diagnosis. Patient demographics and tumor clinicopathological features were comparable. The percentage of surgical candidates was lower during the pandemic (69% vs 62%). There was a significant difference in TNM tumor distribution between pre-pandemic and pandemic subgroups with a higher incidence of advanced (cT4 or cN+ or M1) tumors. T4 tumors and node positive disease were equivalent in both groups but the incidence of disseminated disease (cM1) was significantly higher in the pandemic group (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Our study demonstrates how cancer diagnostic variables, mainly stage at diagnosis, have been affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cancer screening programs. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that cancer diagnosis and treatment pathways be reinstalled in full to return to and build on pre-pandemic priority to ensure the benefits from earlier diagnosis and treatment. Future studies are needed to verify the tendency in stage migration and to optimize CRC care in the pandemic scenario.

ABSTRACT

The main aim of this investigation was the implementation of Augmented Reality Technology (ART) in an activity of the education sector in elementary schools, with a deficient infrastructure of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the northwest’s region of the Mexican Republic in the Mexicali and San Quintin cities. Also in this analysis evaluated the possibility of implementing the ART in industrial companies of Baja California State, Mexico and as a novel way to develop distance training processes, considering the current limitations of the Covid 19 pandemic. Another limitation of the training activity is the lack of economic resources on some occasions to attend events in other cities or places of training. This scientific study was very relevant because this analysis verified that the use of the ART in the activities and the aspects of ICT mentioned made it possible to work and generate productive and representative results. As the deficiency and lack of ICT is an occurrence in some regions of Mexico and is a concern of government and industries of the persons in charge of educational and industrial operations, this investigation would be an alternative method to make educational courses at distance or personality with students. This can also apply to industrial workers with training courses at distance or personality to improve the yielding operative workers. They used in some healthy activities to understand any thematic the ART in training courses as the understanding the Covi19 in some public or private clinics or hospitals and generates the adequate tools to combat it. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
